name was peg mullen. she wrote a book about the death of her son, michael mullen. the name of the book was "friendly fire." norman schwartzkopf was the battalion commander. he was so approachable to peg mullen, so human in his relations with peg mullen, who sought to find out how her son was killed in vietnam. he died from friendly fire, which, you know obviously meant he was killed within the confines of his own unit by shrapnel from american weapons fired. it was so impressive to read about then a colonel later to become norm an schwartzkopf general "time" magazine's man of the year who was so human. just that clip we just showed right then compared to a lot of military officials who we see on tv. an actual human being would could say i hope i don't make a mistake. things like that. interesting, at least to me. >> i think very interesting. i grew up -- i was in high school in part of the anti-vietnam protest, so he was a symbol. you kind of respected him. as you grew holder, you learned that you can politically be different and still respect the man. he was the kind of guy that would

a perspective on how powerful the nra really is in the republican party because we had michael bloomberg, mayor of new york city, on "meet the press" last week. he said they are not that powerful. it is -- they are just -- ed rendell, former governor of pennsylvania. he got elected three times and said they are a piper tiger. >> i agree with the mayor. i said this for a very long time. the myth of the power of the nra is much greater than the actual power of the nra. you have to remember in -- talking about grover norquist and pledge or nra and -- their views, and -- you know, there are a lot of members of congress who are ideologically lined with the views of the organization. less about what the nra can do to them than they agree on most issues. they are getting that support. but if you go out and speak clearly to your constituents about what your views are on the issues and -- about revoking second amendment rights, really only talking about common sense reforms, i think most people would agree with you and most of your constituents, republican, sxind democrats would agree. >> we will be tal

, 43-year-old michael ciporrani and 25-year-old, tomascz chip chip. the shooter, william spengler set the home ablaze and took his own life shooting himself in the head. spengler was no stranger to law enforcement. he served 16 years for a conviction of manslaughter beating his grandmother to death. as a ex-con, spengler was not permitted to have weapons. >> spengler was a convicted felon. he is not allowed to poe -- possess weapons. so did he legally possess the weapons? no. we've had all kinds of weapons larcenies in town and around the county and wayne county as of late so i don't know where those weapons came from but we'll certainly find out. >> reporter: why spengler went on the rampage there is still known motive. when the mother died two months ago, obit irwary asked for donations to the west webster fire department and that is who responded to the fire. he had a strained relationship with his sister. the massive fire that left seven homes destroyed made it difficult to search for what might be additional victims. jamie, it is possible we might learn more defails in the next f

and the likes of chuck schumer and jay rockefeller who owned an ar15 and michael moore and so many of these elites. now we have the demonization of people who suggest that maybe it should be local school districts and communities that take matters into their own hands. i pointed to a great example here in my own home state of colorado. in west cliff colorado where a local city councilman wrote me and told me about a sheriff's jut reach program to citizen volunteers who have been protecting their local school district for ten years now, getting training and working jointly with the sheriff's departments. i think that andrew cuomo maybe ought to talk to his brother, chris cuomo, who himself a member of that liberal democratic family has also endorsed the idea of armed guards in school districts. there are so many other things that do not infringe upon liberty or the second amendment that could go much further along towards preventing the next mass tragedy than what they are proposing now. >> and rob emmanuel's kids are protected by armed guards and the president jokingly said i ran s
